When, just before November’s Federal election, Kerry Shine and Chris Meibusch revealed to Toowoomba’s 1000 U3A members, the offer of a lease on the vacant Baillie Henderson administration building for a new headquarters there was rejoicing.
Meibusch, then the ALP candidate for Groom, has revealed in the July U3A newsletter that funding is required for $40,000 to prepare the building to a stage where a development application can be submitted to the Toowoomba Regional Council. The Health Department declined to cover this.
Once approvals are obtained a second round of funding of up to $250,000 will be necessary, Meibusch also reveals, should allow completion of the car park and the necessary internal modifications to allow occupancy.
