The TV crap we watch - Do you?

I confess! Yes, I have watched The Bold and The Beautiful on Channel 0. And I have watched House, that weekly absurdity about a psychotic diagnostic physician, who remorselessly bullies, tricks, misleads and demeans his young staff of Interns and junior doctors. House has no compunction about justifying his diagnoses by way of drug-manipulated induced symptom and resorts to such tortures as colonoscopies without anaesthetic to reveal his patients’ symptoms by stressing their bodies to the limit.

I wonder that the Australian Medical Association doesn’t demand House’s elimination - the spectre of this maniacal idiot must loom large with patients lining up in waiting rooms all over Toowoomba and the Darling Downs..

As mad as the House program might be, it loses badly in the crap stakes with that awful perennial The Bold and The Beautiful.

Let me see if I can conjure up this revolting confusion of a story: It involves two Los Angeles families – the Foresters and the Logans which are never- endingly feuding. Brooke Logan, a blonde predator, has one by one married the father and two sons of the Forester family, fashion millionaires, and is about again to marry the elder son, Ridge. Brooke has two sisters, Donna who has just married Mr Forreester Senior who has just divorced his bullying control freak of a first wife, Stephanie. Stephanie was shot, but unfortunately not dead, by Donna and Brooke’s brother Storm, who later shot himself because he thought he had shot his third sister, Katie, in a convulsive fit of confusion. Katie narrowly survived because Storm shot himself so he could leave his heart to be implanted into the sister he had shot.

Oh, and Brooke broke up her doctor daughter Bridget’s marriage to Nick, the sailor corporate strongman, and then married him, leaving her daughter distraught to mourn her stillborn daughter. Brooke then broke it off with Nick to return to Ridge, that tomcat elder son. Ye Gods!

And so it goes on and on and on ….. The Bold and the Beautiful claims to have the world’s biggest TV audience. These people toss the word “love” around in all directions but it is a love of malice, intrigue, betrayal, and adultery. These people never kiss tenderly. They “eat” each other – and they make a terrible mockery of tenderness and love as poetry tells us it should be.

How, at age 80, do I know so much about B&B? I am daily deeply relieved every time I go shopping to note that my world remains roughly the same as it was last week.
