Commander of the Toowoomba Regional Council Fleet

Just one of Cr. Carol Taylor's 14 engineering service centres - "A wonderful team of people," she says.

Councillor Carol Taylor for some years was Mayor of the Cambooya Shire. Now she’s chief of the Engineering Services Portfolio for our newish Toowoomba Regional Council.

It’s a huge job – and administratively puts her right up there with the stars of the Rudd Cabinet – Gillard, Roxon, Wong, and Plibersek. I reckon Carol’s broken through a new kind of glass ceiling.

And they don’t have - and could they cope with? - Carol’s mechanical army of dozens of bulldozers, dump trucks, giant graders, cement mixers, lawn mowers ….14 big service depots … and a workforce of 771 engineers, road gangs, and tough working men.

Julie might have Industrial Relations and Education and Penny might have Climate Change, but they don’t have what Carol has!

Her 14 depots are at Greenmount, Cambooya, Millmerran, Cecil Plains, Crows Nest, Clifton, Pittsworth, Oakey, Goombungee, Yarraman, Quinalow, Kingsthorpe, Harristown East (Toowoomba), and Harristown West (Toowoomba)

Unsealed Roads comprise 6200km (including unformed road reserves) and
sealed lanes 4900 km

And just two of many of the critical problem, Carol’s people face: supply of water for construction projects and the problems of attracting and retain professional staff

No, she can’t drive a D9 but she tells me she can drive a truck.
