Sadly for steady Government process, Federal and State Oppositions are presently full of pit-bull terriers attacking on trivialities, rarely helping assess the big issues,
This isn’t Opposition. It’s sheer Destruction.
Why bother analysing an issue, when you can attack the man instead. I thought playing the man went; out with Larwood. The theory is that we’ve all got something crooked to hide..
Some Canberra commentators are criticising Rudd for not steering a steady course but how the hell can you steer a steady course when you’re faced with a rabid mean-minded Opposition going for populist crowd-pleasers – even on global warming.
And we, the great intelligent Australian political public, are tempted by these hip-pocket quick fixes. Thank God, the Opinion Polls show that on global warming we expect more from Opposition than disruptive tactics.
This is the time for Parliamentary consensus with Government and Opposition working non-competitively together for the national good rather than for themselves.
The good news about climate change is that the very calm and impressive Penny Wong is now one of Kevin Rudd's most senior Cabinet ministers in whom he has great confidence, “charged with driving an international consensus on climate change and a domestic consensus on water management.''
Among my favorite Canberra journaliss is Annabelle Crabb, who writes:
“Happily, this is Dr Penny Wong's shift. Wong has the calm, blank face and steady hands of a good trauma surgeon.”
